The forums are full of the same thread. "Is this seiko mod website legit?" "Fake or not?" Someone finds a watch shaped like the one they have wanted for years, at a price that finally makes sense, and then the doubt arrives.
That doubt is healthy. There are sellers in this category charging a premium for a parts-bin build and hoping you never look closely.
So look closely. Here are the seven checks that separate a real watch builder from a rip-off, and where we stand on each one. Run every seller through them, including us.

1. Read the dial. It should tell the truth.
The two words printed on the dial of every watch we build: SEIKO, and underneath it, AUTOMATIC. That is the entire claim the watch makes about itself, and both halves are true. Inside is a genuine Seiko movement.
Now look at what is not printed there. No chronometer certification it never passed. No Swiss town it has never been to. No name borrowed off a watch that costs five figures. In this shape, at this price, that empty space is usually where the lying happens. On ours it stays empty.
What to demand from any seller: the exact movement name in writing. Ours are Seiko NH35, NH34 GMT, NH38 open heart and VK63 chronograph, named on every product page.
2. Ask to see your watch before it ships.
The most common question we get asked before an order: "Could you send me a photo of a recently completed one?" It is the right question. A photograph of a finished build proves there is a bench, a builder and a real watch at the end of the process.
We go one step further. Every order gets photos of your exact watch, the one with your name on it, before it ships. Not a stock render. Not a sample. Yours, finished, photographed, sent to your inbox. Then it gets packed.
If a seller will not show you the watch they built you, ask yourself why.
3. Check what the steel and the glass actually are.
Two materials decide whether a watch at this price feels like a watch or a toy: the case metal and the crystal. Ours are 316L marine-grade stainless steel and sapphire crystal. Sapphire is the same scratch-resistant glass fitted to watches at forty times the price, and it is the most expensive component choice a builder makes.
A seller who lists "stainless steel" without a grade, or mineral glass dressed up in marketing language, made a cheaper choice and would rather you not know. Ask for the steel grade and the crystal material in writing.
4. Check whether it is built for you or pulled from a shelf.
Every Rosevari watch is built to order, one at a time, after you order it. That is why we can photograph yours before it ships, and why no two orders sit in a warehouse waiting to be boxed.
The forum objection goes: "you are paying someone to assemble parts you could buy yourself." True, if you want to spend weeks sourcing components, buying tools, and learning case work on your own watch. As one buyer put it: building is only cheaper if you don't value your time.
5. Check who answers when something goes wrong.
The quiet fear with any online watch purchase: it might just die from a construction fault, and nobody will answer for it. Most sellers in this category offer nothing past the checkout page.
Every Rosevari watch carries a one-year warranty on the movement, crystal, case and dial. Warranty claims are handled personally by our founder, and Australian Consumer Law applies on top of it. Our ABN is on every email we send. A business that expects to be around next year gives you ways to hold it accountable.
6. Check the reviews are verified, not just counted.
Stars are easy to fake. Verified purchase reviews are not: they can only be left by someone who ordered. Ours run through Judge.me and sit at 4.96 out of 5 across 25 verified buyers. A few, as written:

7. Check what the price is actually buying.
The design our chronograph echoes sells for more than a hundred times its price, and a routine service on that watch costs more than this entire one. The difference is not the steel, the sapphire, or whether it keeps time. The difference is the name, and the name is the one thing we do not sell.
You are paying for the watch, not the name. Every dollar is sitting there in steel, sapphire and a genuine Seiko movement. None of it went to a logo.
